Smiths Forensic Accounting

We have significant experience of working with private clients in relation to dispute matters, for example, in relation to matrimonial disputes or contentious probate issues.

As expert advisors, we can assist you in the review of financial disclosure and preparation of questions and information requests for the other party. We can also undertake research of publicly available sources in order to help you to identify any undisclosed assets or sources of income.

We have significant experience in valuing shares in privately-owned businesses and can advise on the potential liquidity of business assets to inform settlement strategies. We are also able to act as a shadow expert to help you critique a Single Joint Expert’s report and to prepare questions to be put to the expert.

Should the matter proceed to Court, we understand the obligations of an expert witness and are highly experienced in preparing expert witness reports for Court proceedings, instructed on behalf of one party or as a Single Joint Expert. We are also experienced in preparing joint statements, responding to questions posed to the expert and giving evidence in Court.

In the expert role, we have acted in many Single Joint Expert cases and understand our duties to all parties. We recognise the need to listen to all parties so that their views can be taken on board as we prepare our report.

All of our deliverables are reviewed by both partners, with consultation and challenge provided throughout each engagement, ensuring that reports and valuations are robust and stand up to scrutiny.
